Situation: Unity Aluminum (fka: Braidy Industries) was a North American development company with plans to build a greenfield aluminum rolling mill. Unity had a world class team, a business plan, detailed engineering plans and equipment selection, and a start-up plan. However, Unity needed approximately $2.2 billion to fund the final design, construction, commissioning, and startup of its planned facility.
Solution: Unity hired Headwall and its affiliate firms to prepare the company for market and to raise the needed capital. Headwall approached private equity funds, global trading houses, global metals companies, and other potential equity and debt investors, leading to Unity’s joint venture agreement with Steel Dynamics (NYSE: STLD) to establish Aluminum Dynamics Inc. (“ADI”), the successor to Unity. Steel Dynamics is in the process of constructing ADI in Columbus, Mississippi, in what is the first aluminum rolling mill to be built in the US in ~40 years and is the largest-ever industrial development project in Mississippi.
